Starring – Bill Moseley, Danielle Harris and Nate Dushku
Directed by – Frank Sabatella
This film starts out on the right foot and stays nice and creepy all the way from the opening scene where we are introduced to young Mary, on through the beginning credits which are very well executed. Unfortunately after the credits it gets quite dull while the rookie actors set up the Mary Hatchet urban legend tale with the help of Graveyard Gus played by genre legend Bill Mosely.
If it weren’t for Moseley, Harris and Dushku there would be no legit acting in the film. Besides those three main characters and the Mary Hatchet character you don’t really care about anyone else and are simply waiting for the rest to be eliminated one by one, each in their own vicious fashion.
Blood Night is not on my list of the worst movies I’ve ever seen but there could have been a bit more editing done to get to the good parts of this one.
In its defense the film is nicely shot and doesn’t look like your run of the mill straight to dvd release. The special makeup effects were good with an eerie score for a well written ghost story.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet gets 2 out of 5 skulls!
